Deciding to take on temporary staff is always a big decision. There are loads of reasons people email us for work. They are often at school and looking for work experience. Some have an interest in music! One thing we are definitely not looking for is people whose passion for music oustrips their ability to stay on task with admin! I know that soounds boring, but as a female musician with considerable experience in commercial music production, I can categorically say that any newcomer to the Beehouse Recording Studio would get opportunities to make music as often as I do - i.e. 10 per cent of the time! Studios take a lot of management and the admin is extremely important. However the opportunities for the right person at the Beehouse are pretty exciting nonetheless.
We are expecting a work experience employee this Spring for a week. We have chosen a young gifted musician with the idea that he may be able to contribute to a charity project we are undertaking next Christmas. Of course he will also get his share of admin and tidying duties, but we feel he will get an enhanced sense of purpose from being involved in a genuine project. The project is to produce a Christmas single/EP, and there will be lots of room for creative input. We are hoping that our school-age assistant will bring plenty of his own ideas and open up the project a little, as we are all in various different generational loops!
The proceeds from our Christmas single are currently planned to go jointly to theAir Ambulance service and "Skills.Inc, Meifod", a local music and drama based charity for children.
